Current version: 0.9alpha

Raider Retreat was a special edition of Homeworld released as a promotion for Homeworld Cataclysm. When Homeworld was originally released a mission that previously existed between the fourth and fifth missions was removed because it was felt to be too hard for beginner players. Once the existence of this mission became public knowledge there was widespread demand from Homeworld players for this mission to be released. Relic eventually relented and it was distributed, along with the previous four missions, as a stand-alone CD to those people who preordered Homeworld Cataclysm.

Please note that, like the original PC version, Raider Retreat will allow you to play the first four missions, the previously "missing" mission and will then stop. If you wish to play the full single-player campaign you should use the main Homeworld application instead. Integrating the Raider Retreat mission with the full campaign will be looked into at a later date.

Installation

  1. Download the Raider Retreat Macintosh application
  2. Uncompress it using Stuffit Expander (it should already be installed on your system so just double-clicking on it should work)
  3. Copy the contents to your main Homeworld folder
  4. Double-click on the "Raider Retreat" application to play!

What to do

It is recommended that you have played the single-player Homeworld campaign all the way through before playing this (or at least played past the first four missions). Background to the extra mission (which therefore contains possible spoilers) can be found by highlighting the "blank" area below:

Mission 2 was testing your hyperspace engines by making a short jump to rendezvous with the research vessel Khar Selim which would monitor your exit from hyperspace. However, the Khar Selim had been destroyed by a small carrier-borne force of the Turanic Raiders. After repulsing their attack on you, you hyperspaced back to Kharak to report what had happened.

Unfortunately, upon your return (Mission 3) you discovered that Kharak had, in your absence, been assaulted by a large force of ships - but not the Turanic Raiders you had encountered previously. Although they took heavy losses from Kharak's planetary defenses they succeeded in destroying the planet. The main fleet moved off but a small contingent was left behind to finish off the survivors.

Realising that your fleet was not strong enough to engage the remaining (Taidani) fleet that ravaged Kharak, you travel to the Great Wastelands (Mission 4) to harvest resources in order to build more ships. Whilst doing so you are once again harassed by the Turanic Raider carrier force which you destroy.

It is at this point that the story line diverges between Homeworld and Raider Retreat. In Homeworld, after defeating the Turanic Raider carrier you went on to engage the fleet that destroyed Kharak. In Raider Retreat, a small detour is taken because it is decided that the constant harassment of the Turanic Raiders must be stopped. You therefore go to their base of operations to destroy as much of their fleet as possible. Their base is heavily defended and their remaining carriers have been recalled to seek shelter within its protection. Shortly after your arrival these carriers will hyperspace in. Destroy them both before they reach safety. Good luck.
